Joslin Diabetes Center - Nutrition Educator in the Pediatric Unit will provide state of the art nutrition education, in a variety of settings, to patients and their families/care-partners, helping to optimize their diabetes management.  Participates in the development of education curricula and materials by writing original material and/or reviewing the work of others.  Promotes and disseminates quality diabetes and nutrition information to professionals and the public following established Clinic Division guidelines.  Collaborates with other educators in identifying needs, developing and providing clinical programs and services.

Responsibilities include:
Program Development and Implementation
·Attend appropriate Joslin Boston committee meetings to remain involved and active member of clinical and educational staff.
·Participates in quality control/quality improvement activities within one’s scope of practice that promotes quality service.
·Participates in the development and revision of educational materials and curricula.
·Work in collaboration with staff in Boston to further develop, implement and oversee the dietetic intern diabetes rotations to help optimize their formal training in all areas of diabetes management.

Nutrition
·Provides state of the art nutrition/teaching education.
·Maintains appropriate and accurate documentation in all areas, meeting standards and providing needed information for clinic and department evaluation and actions.
·Documents and processes medical records, billing and statistical records according to Joslin Policy and Procedures.

 Pediatric Research Initiatives:
·Works with the Coordinator of pediatric nutrition Education and Research and the Director of Pediatrics and the multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement research projects.

Qualifications include:
·Bachelors degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
·At least 1 year experience in an inpatient setting  Outpatient counseling experience with pediatric patients with diabetes preferred.
·Registered with the American Dietetic Association Licensed in the state of MA.
·Certified Diabetes Educator required or must sit for the exam within six months of eligibility. 
·Competency in written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills flexibility to adapt to changes in daily routine, good public speaking skills, self directed.

Children’s Hospital Boston: Diabetes Nurse Educator

Martha Eliot Health Center, Children's Hospital Boston’s community health center, is looking to add a Diabetic Nurse Educator to the team of Adult Primary Care and Women’s Health Services Staff. We are recruiting an experienced nurse who is a self-starter capable of working independently toward goals with maximum accountability; organized, process-driven and interested in program development.

Part time position: 20 - 24 hrs/week.

The Diabetes Nurse Educator will be a key clinician to coordinate patient self-management initiatives for MEHC adult patients diagnosed with diabetes to facilitate improving self-management goals for all patients in collaboration with our primary care providers.  This position requires an effective and energetic style to development and maintain therapeutic relationships and self-directed skills with a strong desire to impact high risk vulnerable patients with diabetes and related chronic illness. 

Responsibilities include one-on-one patient visits; facilitating health improvement through lifestyle coaching; providing patient education; participating in community outreach prevention initiatives; collaborating with outside community resources such as VNA and insurer-based case coordination services; and facilitating health center support groups such as small group classes for newly diagnosed persons with diabetes.  

Case management responsibilities include oversight and interpretation of laboratory results for diabetic patients; ordering of therapeutics, durable medical supplies and refills for prescription medications; coordinating of referrals and diagnostic studies as needed; and follow up of Emergency Department visits and hospitalizations.  

Additional opportunities include participation in quality assurance initiatives related to the diabetic patient population.

Qualifications:  Minimum 2 – 3 years as a Diabetes Nurse Educator with a clinical background and experience in content areas such as patient education, diabetes, nutrition, physical fitness and other health related topics; Knowledge of community resources and previous experience working with a diverse population. Flexibility in work schedule as needed.  Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred. Certification strongly desired.
